So my daughter comes to me and says, “for your birthday I’m going to let you take my picture”. Hummm, I wonder how annoying it must be to be a child of a “child photographer”. Anyway, she offered and I took her up on it. I went for something quick and painless, a simple quilt background. And STILL they gave me a hard time! It was a great gift. Much better than the quarters, pencils, mints and old toys that they usually wrap up

I love that each wedding has its own story. And this wedding had such a great story I want to touch on it. My friend Melissa and I both, for different circumstances, found ourselves single with young children. It’s a difficult place to be. And when I got the email asking to photograph her wedding I yelled an internal WooHoo! Because I believe God intended for us to have love in our lives. Melissa found this love again and I was so honored to be a part of this celebration. As a photographer I get to see a lot of wonderful moments behind the scenes. My favorite behind the scenes moments of this wedding were:

The veil, which kept blowing off in the 20+ MPH winds.

The collective effort to dress a 2 year old who did NOT want to wear those weird black pants.

Melissa straightening her sons tie before they walked down the aisle.

Melissa’s 10 year old son gave her away. Of course at the last minute 2 year old baby brother did not want to be left out. So at the last second she took a breath and decided, “Hey, what better way to walk down the aisle” It was precious to hear the collective “awww” from the guests

How cute are these four little sisters??? I bet Mom must be so proud. The best part for me when photographing children are the moments “in between” In between the shots are the moments you talk about their American Girl dolls. You hear about their day at school and what their sister did that made them so mad that time. These connections are what makes kids so special to photograph.

Had a great time photographing Taylor and Dylan at Tybee Island. The lighting was gorgeous and Taylor really knew how to pop her wardrobe. Add that to a great location and I got some great photos of them. Thanks Dylan for being my first male senior. You were a hoot! (that’s Savannah talk y’all)

Chelsea+Cliff engagement photoshoot

I had a great time hanging out with Chelsea and Cliff. Chelsea had this great bubble personality and was raring to go. I had a suspicion Cliff was thinking “let’s get this over with”. But when I gave him permission to goose Chelsea at inopportune moments we had an understanding. We were going to get some great photos AND have fun I think they look adorable together. Congratulations Chelsea and Cliff!!!

I say to myself “oh look at this cute hat! J needs a new hat”…(‘photo op’ whispers faintly in my head.) I love a fancy stylized shoot but sometimes all you need is one great hat. Keeping it simple allows the focus to be on a child’s expression and facial features.

I had a great time on this shoot. It’s been a while since I’ve photographed older children. It’s great because mom can kinda hang out in the house while the kids and I can go off exploring. This property was incredible…garden, solar panels, chicken coop, utility shed. What more could a photographer ask for??? Well, how about a girl hanging upside down on a clothes line? The kids were super sweet with just a hint of snarkiness which made them awesome to photograph! Thanks K and S! I had a great time hanging out with you.

Was very honored to second shoot this wedding with Matt from MJ Gillespie Photography (who had a great sense of humor and taught me a thing or two) . The wedding was so beautiful and Ashley and Eric were just adorable. The reception was at Lake Arrowhead which was an incredible location. We pulled up to the wooden bridge and I let out a little squeal… Oh and by the way check out these kiddos. I could have spent all day following them around.

I would like to thank Intrigue Salon for opening up and allowing me to photograph in their space. I’m a client at Intrigue and have wanted to photograph a styled session here for a while. I am a HUGH architecture and interior design fan and Intrigue has a lot of elements that just excite me. I didn’t really intend to do the 70′s shoot here as I had more of an outdoor weeds/hippie van idea in my head. I had the dress in my car and a willing and beautiful model available so I went with it and love how the photos turned out. Thanks to all who made my retro shoot a success… Jeff, London, Emily and models Cassidy and Kristi.
